Helping Others

BLT is a lifegiving organization. We believe in helping others live healthy and happy!

We have several international projects aimed at improving the lives of others, especially those in part of the developing world who would otherwise go without help. Read more below:

ROSEPEP House

In 2009, RosePep House will open its doors as the first Clubhouse model home in Ghana serving individuals suffering from the effects of major mental illnesses. Clubhouses provide their members with opportunities to contribute as adults to a community working toward the success of all. As examples, Clubhouse members share as partners with staff in all decision making, build confidence as they learn new skills, and through the programs “Transitional Employment” partnership with local businesses, move toward greater independence by building on time limited employment opportunities. Most importantly, RosePep House will help its members find a place they can belong to, in a community without time limits, that needs and values their contributions. The medical effects of mental illness are themselves devastating. Because of the harsh stigma mental illness carries in Ghana as in many societies, however, help for those most discriminated against of all disability groups is often a life or death issue. RosePep House is affiliated with International Center for Clubhouse Development www.iccd.org  With your belief and support, RosePep House will open its doors in 2009 in Kaneshie, Ghana - West Africa.

SALEM ORPHANAGE & MEDICAL OUTREACH (SOMO)

BLT is also partnering with Rev. Emmanuel Kure to support SOMO, an organization in northern Nigeria, by providing the hospital and orphanage with needed supplies to care for their patients. The need is so great that many patients are carried in on the backs of their relatives. We need

  • Medical Supplies like bandaids, peroxide, alcohol, gauze, betadine.
  • Topical medications like hydrocortisone, bacitracin can go a long way.
  • Any sealed, current medications. Open or expired meds cannot be used
  • Equipment like glucometers, sterilizers, X-ray machines, nebulizers, crutches, IV poles, carts, trays
  • Furniture beds, chairs, tables
  • Vehicles like ambulance, trucks, vans (vehicles must be in good condition and able to pass state inspection)
  • Clothes and toys for the children. These must be clean and in good condition.

If you have any donations for this important mission, please do not hesitate to contact us!!

A big THANK YOU to Mr. Lou Yeager from CHP in Westminster, Maryland for his incredible support of this outreach program.

MEDICAL OUTREACHES

In January 2007 we traveled to Obala, Cameroon. We worked with health care providers from Florida to conduct a clinic during the day, and also held church services in the evenings. THANK YOU to everyone who donated towards this outreach event. Some of the feedback from team members:

  • People lined up for hours, way before clinic was even ready to open
  • I knew people lived in poverty, but now its real to me
  • I'm so glad we went

Here's a special report from Patricia Gould (second from the left) one of the team members who traveled to Obala, Cameroon: Wow!!! Life changing!!! Enriching!! Challenging!!! Great!!! What an experience?"

We continue to provide support to medical teams, and to travel to remote areas ourselves to help others with medical needs. Our only limiting factor sometimes is finances. With your help, we can do more....
